Day 16 of 40
Praying the Promises
“Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.” | JAMES 5:17-18
Today’s excerpt from Climbing Prayer Mountain:
“Elijah demonstrated how we access the promises of God’s Word. He believed rain was on the way, and, by faith, he knew prayer was the means to bring down the promises. In a fetal position, Elijah tells someone to go look towards the Mediterranean Sea for a rain cloud; there was nothing. This scene played out over and over again with the same report, “Nothing!” Still, the elder prophet kept at it, his bearded face between his knees, calling out for his Father to send rain… Sure enough, the clouds darkened, and the heavens opened in response to a righteous man’s prayers.”
As you think Elijah’s multiple prayers for rain, what are your thoughts on the importance of praying even when you don’t see immediate results?
Today’s prayer: God, grant me patience and perseverance in my prayer life.
